Perhaps I should say that I would like to identify with HV, but that sadly I don't have devastatingly attractive undergraduates and filthy rich and entertaining aristocrats throwing themselves at my feet.
I mean in the sense of being surrounded by typescript with illegible annotations in my own handwriting, wondering if I really have an orderly enough mind for this game!
It sounds to me like you need a Harriet of your very own, to just scoop up the whole mess and carry it off to the printer!
(an agent friend once told me that a lot of his job consists of prying manuscripts off reluctant authors. Almost nobody likes to hand things in, it seems...)
Item 1) That's a horrible pun in the title there. Be proud of yourself.
Item 2) I haven't read them recently enough to know whether I identify with her or not, and since if I recall it was over 10 years ago, this is long enough to significantly change my results.
Item 3) Thus my answer of "Harriet who?"; in classic james_nicoll poll style, "I would like to complain about this poll" is somewhat more accurate.
Harriet is everywhere (see poll above), and I'm not 100% sure why. I mean, she's a lovely character and I'd like her as a friend, but I'm not sure I'd ever want to be her.
What a cool icon! (I meant to say that last time, but forgot)
I came over from Valancy's just to vote in this poll. I identify with Harriet because I like her honesty, her humor, her realism, and of course her literary tastes. If she really is everywhere, I'm thrilled! :-)
Very nice to meet you too! I can't say for sure whether I'm REALLY like her, or just a wannabe. :-) I think -- I hope -- that I have the honesty part down. At least, I try to.
