It's gone awfully quiet. Is there anyone still out there?

This post does more or less what it says on the tin.

I'm collecting fics that, although they have been rendered non-canon by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, are still fine fics that deserve a wider audience.

If you know of a fic that's really excellent and has recently had the bad luck to get jossed, please leave me a link here. These stories deserve exposure, and it's not their fault that Deathly Hallows just happened not to agree with them. It's just one of those things. Self-plugs welcome; plugs to other writers equally welcome.

I loved the book, but it's been a bad year for my fanfic.

Last time I at least guessed the identity of the Half-Blood Prince correctly (even if I meant it as a joke and deliberately chose the silliest person I could find). This year it looks like they were reenacting the Final Battle on my author-page - carnage galore, and a lot of my personal favourites were hardest hit.

(ETA: hem hem! Since LJ won't let me put all this on the LJ cut, if you click on the cut below you will not only be SPOILED on "Deathy Hallows", you will see SPOILERS to my stories too. You have been warned. IN A VERY CAPSLOCK WAY!

So, how has your work been faring? Did you predict something amazing and it came true? Will you be rejigging your stories to make them canon-compliant? Enquiring minds want to know!

I got Deathly Hallows at midnight from the local bookshop. Some of the attendants had fantastic costumes, and there was still a queue well after midnight. What was really remarkable was how many anxious adults there were, looking around to check there wasn't anyone they knew! (Yes I know - takes one to know one, right?)

Here are a few very random thoughts. Anyone who doesn't want to get spoiled, for heaven's sake don't click on the LJ cut below! If you do you will see SPOILERS and get SPOILED, and because you've been clearly warned, nobody will feel sorry for you at all.

All in all, I really liked this book - I enjoyed it more than HBP, there seemed to be more going on, and more things that really took me by surprise. I liked the new light she shed on many people we thought we knew. A fitting end to the series - I'm a lot more reconciled to it ending now.

Signing out for Potterdaemmerung. I've established that there's a midnight bookshop about 15 minutes' walk from where I live, so I'll pick up a copy, dodging drunks and whatnot all the way, no doubt, but who cares?

I'm still not planning on spoiling you. I'll probably be too blasted by seeing the end of an era to post anything much after I've read the thing, but if I do feel compelled to share my thoughts with the waiting world, I promise to use a cut. And then in a day or two when the first wave of fuss has died down I'll post the new chapter of "Sherlock Holmes and the Ravenclaw Codex".

See you on the other side, folks. Enjoy!

... I'm not planning on spoiling anybody. I know how to use an LJ cut. You have nothing to fear from my journal.

It's all getting terribly quiet round here, as the spoiler-averse avoid LJ - so I thought I'd better display my pretty new icon while there's still someone around to see. Nice, isn't it?
