Why is it that zombies are always crying out for brains? And what will they do with the brains if they get them? Use them, or eat them? Or something even worse?

Enquiring minds want to know!

I've never met a zombie so I can't ask for confirmation, but I believe the brains are zombie sustenance. Whether they are the only part of the body a zombie can devour or merely a delicacy is unknown.

I suspect I meet zombies all the time. But I can't take the risk and ask someone who's vaguely zombie-like about brains - if they turn out just to be very dopey, they might get cross!

I always assumed they ate them, possibly with a nice chianti... I think they might be able to reanimate them too in some strange and convoluted way. This is pure speculation, I tend to avoid horror flicks and books.

That's a great icon!

I can't believe that any wine that goes well with liver would suit something as pale and sloppy as brains... but I suppose zombies aren't the most discriminating of creatures!

Hmmm...perhaps zombies would prefer a bottle of Blue Nun...

(the icon came from me getting rather scared by this face in a packet of biscuits. I am certain that it is possessed).

Maybe they are aware, in a confused zombifyed way, that they are not what they used to be, and think that if they eat enough brains they might get themselves back?

Sounds logical, if alarming... I think that could be it.

I don't think they know why they want them, not having any, you see!

Poor things - it can't be all fun and games, being a brain-sucking revenant!

According to the Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency (Zombie Sociology section),
"The cooperation zombies show in hunting generally vanishes when they start feeding. Many zombies receive serious wounds from other zombies during a feeding frenzy. Hungry zombies leave nothing but the bones, which they break open to get to the marrow. Well fed zombies will stick to the nutritious brain and bone marrow, leaving the rest of the viscera for the weaker members of the pack. Only in times when the food supply is plentiful will a zombie share."
So it appears to be a matter of nutrition.

That is a truly awesome level of knowledge. I'd no idea you were so well-read, or so up on Zombie Science! You shouldn't slink - this is a matter for great pride!

lolz. I wish I'd found this entry earlier. I love [livejournal.com profile] ms_wanderlust's contribution - every flist should have a zombie guru. :D

(Icon love, as ever)

I agree - every flist should have someone well versed in zombie law! And I'm very lucky to have her on mine - it will come in very useful when they break loose from the basement and start stalking the campus...

A bit sloppy for my taste, but highly nutritious!
