A few posts back,

[profile] katyhasclogssuggested that I should write a post about shoes, and she is absolutely right. Where would we be without shoes? Feet a mass of chillblains, cuts and bruises, that's where - not to mention covered in all the horrible things on the pavement that shoes protect us from.

Unfortunately, I don't have many really noteworthy shoes myself - about the best I can do is the rather expensive pair of boots with high heels and lots of little hooks and eyes that were meant to give a sort of Jane Eyre-y feel, but actually just make me stagger like a drunk, or else walk very carefully like a drunk trying to fake sobriety. Most of my other shoes are servicable, and good friends, but unremarkable. This lack of really exciting shoes means that I will have to enlist the help of the f-list once again.

I'm wearing DM shoes - ordinary black, properly broken in and very comfy. What shoes are you wearing? Would I like them?

Highish ankles are a Good Thing - as I discovered to my cost as I twisted my ankle in the most public manner possible on the way back to the office this afternoon. Ouch!

I have one pair of Echo sandals, which I wear to work, and they are great - also cost me nearly nothing as they were in the last moments of a sale. I've never since found a pair in their shop that I really liked since.

Your boots sound very nice, unable-to-walk-in-them issue aside...

After teenage years in denial, I like shoes. I have acquired quite a lot of them over the years, not by purchasing at a high rate, so much as by taking care of them and not wearing them out. At this very moment I am wearing these in bronze, bought in the Schuch sale, and very, very comfy (and leather lined).

On Monday I received a delivery of these shoes, possibly the most beautiful shoes in existence. I sha'n't be wearing them until Spring, though, so they are sitting quietly in their box in the wardrobe.

I was very tempted by those bronze shoes in the Schuh sale, but decided after consulting [livejournal.com profile] frankie_ecap by text that they probably weren't me. I can totally see them being you, though.

I'm currently wearing purple towelling slippers, which are lovely and comfy and warm!

mmmm... warm feet! Towelling sounds like a really good idea - like sheepskin, but washable, and also less cruel to sheep.

I thought you were joking about the "most beautiful shoes in existence", but they really are! A vision in leather. I bet they'll look great on as well!

If you like fluffy, warm, cover-your-ankles slippers you'll like what I'm wearing at the moment.

Outside in the winter I wear walking boots nearly all of the time. In summer it's a pair of sturdy sandals from Decathlon suitable for running up and down stairs umpteen times a day.

I have one pair of black flats for posh occasions.

My friend C is a real shoe nut. She has so many pairs her husband has taken to calling her Imelda.

I completely agree with you about walking boots - if there was any way of stopping myself tracking mud in on them, they'd be perfect.

My friend C is a real shoe nut. She has so many pairs her husband has taken to calling her Imelda.

So such people really exist! I've always wondered...

I'm wearing a pair of black pumps with rhinestone snakes that I got on sale at Wet Seal for $15. I couldn't find the shoes on their site, so I had to try and photograph my own feet. (I can't figure out how to embed pictures properly with Scrapbook.)

Sssssssss! Those are incredibly shoes, so snaky and glittery! I thought you just meant a snake logo, and there they were - actual snakes...

I'm wearing these ones! Well, I was until 20 minutes ago: now I'm in stockings ^_^ Only I have them in brown antique instead of black. But since mine apparently are sold only in stores and nowhere online this picture must suffice.
They have some kind of shock-absorption system which actually works and makes them one of the most amazingly comfortable pair of shoes I've ever had - aside from sneakers - even with their higher heels. When I know I have to do lots of running around all day and still must look professional and elegant they're my first choice. Until it gets warm again at least, they're (fake of course!) fur-lined inside so not really suitable for warmer climates sadly.

Those look great - the kind of shoes that you can take anywhere and look great. The kind of boot I'd buy if I knew where to find it.

And I know what you mean about shock absorbtion - I have one pair of (relatively) high heeled shoes that has it, and they are so comfortable, despite being one of my more stylish pairs.

It was love at first sight when I first caught sight of them!
Shoes are the one thing I've always been unashamedly girly about even in my extreme tomboy-childhood and teenage years: of course then the obsession centered around sneakers exclusively and I could recite the complete product-lists from Adidas, Nike, Reebok and Puma from memory and discuss each pair in nauseating depth ^_^

I'm usually very skeptic about promises like that: another pair of high-front pumps I own boasted a similar technique and I never noticed a more comfortable wear than other shoes of this style I have... But I liked their looks a lot and so was inclined to get them anyway ^_^
I was really surprised when it made a difference actually! It's great if you have to spend a whole day on your feet as opposed to just walking to your desk and then sit for hours, only having to go a few yards to another office, the copier, kitchen or bathroom in between...

This is the designer, the website is English-language also and - since they have a representative listed for GB - I'd think their shoes must be available there also:

www.caprice.de

I personally dislike their spring/summer collection but the preview for their stuff for next autumn/winter looks great again!

I'm wearing these.

I find shoes difficult, on the whole: I have very narrow feet, and as a result struggle to find anything I like which doesn't look like a boat on me. Generally I can't get anything under £100 a pair; I like plainish but reasonably elegant shoes that you can walk easily in them - for every day, I've got a ridiculously comfortable pair of Mephistos, black with a wedge heel.

I'm also devoted to my fell boots, which are made by Brashers and, incredibly, fit me (getting slim fitted outdoor shoes is even worse than dressy ones) and are so comfortable I can wear them all day if I like. In the summer, I virtually live in Teva sandals. i find them incredibly comfortable, and I have a black pair that until recently would pass with a summer frock. I must try and replace them!

I sympathise - my dad has long, thin feet, and goes on these quests to find the perfect shoe that fits... I think he spends more on shoes than the rest of the family put together, but he has no choice.

Just butting in to second the love for Teva sandals! They're marvellous and incredibly robust: my current pair will be 7 years old this summer and has survived travelling around the world, including carrying around a 50 pound backpack for months. And they're still as comfortable as when I bought them and show little signs of wear.
If only they weren't so expensive! But then, quality always is...

True, true. And thankfully if you look long enough you nowadays have always a good chance to get them cheaper online ^_^

I'm very much a minimalist when it comes to shoes - I rarely own more than about three pairs, plus the requisite flip flops (which I am currently wearing).

Your boots sound gorgeous! I have a pair of knee-length green platforms which I absolutely love, but rarely wear due to walking issues.

Docs really are FTW - once broken in, you can walk on them forever, and they can also pass as smart shoes if you have to be on your feet a lot. I like them!

Well, right this moment I'm not wearing any as I'm about to go to bed, but my 'current pair' is a pair of metallic purple DMs.

They look pretty funky, but I do have some issues with them. They were horrendous to break in and I do find them a bit narrow at the toes. Also, nice as metallic purple leather is, it's not that practical as I can't polish it and the plasticy nature of it means that it's beginning to crack.

Basically, I will never find a pair of boots that I love as much as my previous pair. :(

I know how you feel with heels, I have a nice pair of black shoes that I can barely stand in, let alone walk. And the heels aren't even that high!

Those look great - though I feel your pain at breaking them in - I've had horrendous blisters while trying to get used to DMs.

Basically, I will never find a pair of boots that I love as much as my previous pair. :(

I sympathise. My first pair of docs were in dove-grey leather - soft and great to look at. I've never managed to find a replacement to fill the hole those shoes left!

Your boots sound lovely even though I won't wear high heels and would have the same drunken problems if I did. I almost had a touch of boot-envy though because I could picture them. Jane Eyre indeed.

DMs though - that would be nice to have. AND I LOVE THAT SONG BY ALEXEI. I first heard it (and saw it) in The Young Ones.
"Come on boots, do your stuff!"

- I was just talking about the Young Ones with the other Boss in our department today. And yesterday. It's hilarious because we start quoting at each other and in the meantime people are trying to sneak by and set up the meeting he's in and so forth and so on...it's hard to stop reminiscing.

Anyway, I am an unremarkable shoe person because I am so low-maintenance I don't even remember to polish them when I realllly really should because they get scuffed. I'm the type who worms shoes on without untying them too.

Now I feel the need to apologize to all current and deceased shoes I've had.

For I somehow seem to have way more shoes than I should actively need. Yet right now in winter what I wear the most to work is this shoe: SafeTStep. Not because it won't slip but because it's wide width where it should be and narrow in the heel and so it fits. And looks professional enough. You think?

OMG someone's heard of the Alexei Sayle song! I'd forgotten it was in The Young Ones - for some reason I've always associated it with his sketch show.

He seems to have gone into serious writing these days - his stories are just slightly more funny than painful, but it's a close thing. Far cry from "Geoffrey the Tube Train and the Fat Comedian"... though come to think of it, that was a scary book as well, in places (did it ever make it over to your neck of the woods?)

SafeT Step looks professional and eminently practical - when PWNing your boss, it is important to be properly shod at all times, after all...

"ER, ARE YOU MUSSOLINI?"
sorry...hee

I have not seen Geoffrey the Tube Train - and the mere sound of it makes me laugh. Oh, that guy's a genius.

Properly shod so as to insert foot where certain persons need it most; yes.
