From the BBC website - the imoral horror that is The Teletubbies.

Not an entirely serious article, I feel, but it made me smile, and it raised a very interesting question as well - what other so-called "harmless" children's TV programmes are undermining the moral standards of our young? I think we should be told, so if you have managed to ferret out hidden threats to the innocent in otherwise completely innocuous children's TV, films or literature, do please drop me a line to tell me all about it, and I promise to wring my hands and be shocked!

Good heavens, POland is behind the time. "Teletubbies promotes homosexuality" is so last decade.

My mother was never very keen on Rainbow. As she put it, never trust a grown man who wears dungarees.

WTF is wrong with Eastern EUrope ...

Not that I like the Tele tubbies, they subject the children to a totally different kind of horror, though: BAD GRAMMAR.

There is no need to speak (and I am using that word in a very broad sense) in that idiotic baby language.

I'm probably showing my age, but the original Bill and Ben was very sus. They had a side-kick called Weed.

Apparently Postman Pat was banned in Japan, because he had les that the requisite number of fingers, indicating his involvement with the Yakuza.

Wow, Poland is way behind the times. The fundies in the US were complaining about that thing's handbag years ago.

So last decade? Must have been the part of it when I was living in China! Sorry!

I had a pronounced aversion to Rainbow as a child - I think it was all those big scary eyes and the idea of having your mouth zipped up... ugh.

Spot the language teacher!

I know how you feel - and I'm sure living in a place where children are encouraged to use annoying squeaky voices until they're about 10 makes that feeling even worse...

Also showing my age here ...

It wasn't just Bill and Ben. There was always something deeply suspcious about the relationship between Andy Pandy and Teddy.

I love the idea of Yakuza!Postman Pat. Covered with blocky tattoos in primary colours with smiley faces, no doubt...

I must have been in China at the time. You've seen the CCTV news - if it's not a huge disaster with loss of life they don't want to know...

i assuem the article is mockery but alas the stuff about poland being alarmed by tinkywinky's handbag is real. us concservatives had the same concerns a few years ago.

That sounds like my kind of story. I do get very tired of people who read far too much into something that just isn't there!

it's
taboo' by ...arthur machen? i hope that was right. i've read few too man yshorts lately (ack! i'd have read one-shtos instead if ihadnt' discovere the joy of these). anyway it's about a man wh wants to write down his travels in the philistines only he's warned to not mention anythign to do with eating so he writes the narrative and doesn't sa ya word about meals or loca lfoods anything.
since it's taboo there. then once the book is published soeone isnists whenever he mentiosn swords he actuall means forks and so on.needless to say this gets him into adiscussion until he seeks refugei nsoem kidn of university museu mor what and gets inadebate with a few mummies....
i did m ybest not too spoil too much. trust me this is enogu hof the rim of the brim..the rim? of the actual story to get you interested, the fillign is much beter than i coudl do it justice.
this kidn of quck readign is good anyway. i've come to like kurt vonnegut for instance, and robert heinlein. ambroce bierce...

Gay!Tubbies went around as an internet joke for months here and finally it got to the gov't, where are a few rare idiots indeed.
Now most of the Europe has a good laugh, helped by the Polish-are-gay-haters campaign, whish has been going in some Western papers for quite a few months already.
All these thanks to our Minister of Education: looks not unlike Frankie from "Adams Family", only Frankie was smarter...
Thanks God I don't watch TV news, I has been spared this nonsense till today :)

Scuse interruption, but I wholly sympathise with your Zippy-aversion. I used to watch Rainbow from behind the sofa just in case. Also had a phobia about Bagpuss, for no evident reason. Maybe he was more sinister in black & white?

Interesting you should say that. I can remember something indefinably alarming about Bagpuss - not really alarming, as I did continue watching the programme, more a creeping feeling of unease.

Perhaps because of all the inanimate, vaguely corpse-like entities in the shop window coming to life?

Our current guys gave knack for bad allies and even worse info-policy. There are some pretty sensible things they do, but they add such an enormous load of crap on top, nobody;s going to notice.
And really, what's with the Tubbies? GroupSex!Smurfs erotic life was much more susceptible, if you ask me...

On the whole, I don't think I do dare ask you about the Smurfs!

A few good ideas and a lot of bad ones? That sounds familiar...
