Character Love Meme

In a rather hopeless effort to prove that I am not always a terminally grumpy old sourpuss who angsts about everything, I've stolen the Character Love Meme from [personal profile] lyras.

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I will write no more than 100 words on why I love them.

So - name your characters! Fandoms: Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, Star Trek: Next Generation, Star Trek: Enterprise, Robin Hobb's Farseer and Golden Fool series, Alastair Reynolds's Revelation Space quartet, (a lot of, but not all) Terry Pratchett, Lord of the Rings, Mina de Malfois.

No reasonable (or unreasonable) offer refused...

I'm rereading ASOIAF at the minute, and Tyrion's parts I can always read over and over again.

He's one of the few people in the book who isn't blinded by his own interests, and one of the few who can look an unpleasant truth in the face. Not to mention one of the few who can really laugh - a lot of his peers are often funny, but it's rarely on purpose!

I enjoy (and suspect he does too) the irony of his situation - he's one of the few trying to help King's Landing, and yet he's blamed for everything because he looks funny.

I also like the way he's rude to his relations.

Yes! I think he's the only major character in the entire series with a sense of humour. And I love how he knocks off his dad. One of the true gorgeous moments in the series.

It's a superb moment. One of the greats. Along with the moment when Sam Tarly comes up the well and ... too many to count!
