Because it seems like forever since I've done one of these. Pinched from the lovely lyras .

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either:

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon,
(b) a reason he/she sucks,

(d) five things that never happened to that character, or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why.

Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan (and if the Betans are so bloody advanced and liberal, why do they still have a system in which women take their husband's names?).

[Edd. Yes, I know some women freely choose to do this, and that's fine. But for it to be the default on a planet where licensed physical sex therapist is a highly-respected profession strikes me as a bit odd.]

Eeek! You had to pick up the one character from those books about whom I have almost no opinion, seeing as how she's so Perfect in Every Way. Still, quick thinking has produced a handful of personal fanon facts.

a) Coming from such a dry world, Cordelia is appalled and fascinated by the sea in equal measure.

b) For years she has been considering cutting off her hair, in order to terrify the staid matrons of Barrayar. But she can't bring herself to do it - she has such pretty hair.

c) She would never mention this to a soul, but when things get a bit rocky in the Vorkosigan household, she secretly looks back with a joyful nostalgic yearning at the One who Got Away, a dashing hermaphrodite who probably was just as crazy about her as she was about (personal pronoun), but neither of them ever plucked up the courage to speak. She's never mentioned this to a soul, however - even Ivan would never really understand.

As to the surname thing - well, it's a mystery. Perhaps men take their wives names in a similar way? Or perhaps it's what Bujold would approve of, and therefore just The Right Thing to Do?

I particularly like (c). I was looking for stuff on the books on the internet the other day, in which LMB said that the logical next development would be the death of Aral Vorkosigan and Cordelia's return to Beta. So maybe there is hope for hidden hermapprodite!passion yet (and can you imagine what Miles' political enemies would make of it!).
